Rise of the Underdogs (DatPiff Mixtape)
Baptism by fire, a "Kaged Animal" is the only way to describe the artist Mr.Pearson's attempt to rise in the NYC hip hop scene. Born in the Bronx and raised on the other side of the Hudson River, Mr.Pearson has been a fan of Hip Hop for as long as he can remember from his neighborhood block parties to seeing other kids walk around with mini radios playing "Ready To Die" by the Notorious B.I.G. With his father being a rapper during his teen years known as The Grand Wizard Kid C, music would become apart of Mr.Pearson life down the road.
"The day I realized I wanted to be a rapper was after hearing the Slim Shady LP followed by Capitol Punishment. My brother opened the doors for me as far as starting to rap after I heard his demo he recorded on our radio with the built in mic. It was over the Dungeon family instrumental "Watch For The Hook". I imitated his song as a joke around but if it wasnt for my brother making that song I wouldnt even be rapping." With the darkness and lyrical skills of Eminem, the breathing control of Big Pun and Cuban Link, and the bravado of Jay Z and his older brother Mello, Mr.Pearson brings in a breath of fresh air without forgetting his influences. Mr.Pearson stays true to the true essence of Hip Hop presenting art, creativity & Lyricism.
Watching his older brother pursue his career, Mr.Pearson stepped away from that shadow and began to solidify his own stance as he took advantage of his skill when he started battling other local rappers in School during gym time and lunch to get his name ranked higher in High School. First appearing on a former groups mixtape Its A Long Story, and polishing his combat skills in neighboring blocks and lunch tables, he has garnered buzz within his home base of Union City NJ.
"I've been writing since I was 11 years old. I've been making music since I was 13 years old. I've been performing since I was 13 years old lying about my age to get into local bars even showing up to the venue early to avoid paying at the door or even showing an ID which I didnt own."
Mr.Pearson plans to come back to hip hops birth place a conqueror. His music shows personal struggles and hardships overcame throughout his years that fellow listeners can relate to. The name itself implies the versatility in store for the audience. With over 20 performances, 8 mixtape appearances, 5 known radio interviews, a failed independent record deal & the respect from his peers, Mr.Pearson looks to further his career as a solo artist he continues to gain respect from other New jersey/New York artists at local showcases.
Respecting the change in todays music Mr.Pearson looks to show that the underdogs can still become a success.
